Making the Transition (MTT) is a two-phase, 15-week program to assist at-risk youth (ages of 15 to 30) who have left school and are having difficulty getting established in the workforce. The program helps youth prepare for the job market by providing employability and life skills training through classroom and experiential learning activities. Participants also take certificate courses such as First Aid, Food Safe, and WHMIS at the local college to further prepare them for the workforce. Youth are paid an allowance while attending the program. After completion of the first phase, youth move into paid work experience with a local employer. In order to get into MTT, youth need to see an employment counselor at KES to help determine if MTT is right for them.
Youth that participate in MTT gain significant employment time and a regular pay cheque along with the possibility of continued work after the program ends. All youth are encouraged to pursue further education as well. Most of the youth that have participated in past MTTs have gone on to be successful in the workforce.
Next intake: November 2010.

“We would not have had this opportunity had it not been for the MTT program as we weren’t hiring. After having Kyle with us, and watching him prove himself, we have created a position to retain him. Many thanks to KES for bringing Kyle to us.”
-Jim Reid, Owner of Bahamas.
“Before the MTT program I was struggling to find work that was meaningful. A health issue made things even more difficult and I had almost given up on ever finding a good job. Now I’m working in a field I never would have expected to and loving it!”
