COMMUNICATION AND EDUCATION COORDINATOR

Requirements Formal qualification(s) in education or science, or equivalent background (certification, BSc, MS etc.)
Criminal record check (or able to pass one)
Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email etc.)

Strong communication skills
Education experience (children and adults)
Ability to work independently and within a team
Must have an interest in environmental science and environmental sustainability
Experience in the following an asset: Reporting, grant writing, general fieldwork
Current first aid certification an asset
Project management skills an asset
Class 4 or 5 driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle

The Elk River Alliance (ERA) has an immediate opening for a part-time Communication and Education Coordinator.
The applicant will join a small, fast-paced not-for-profit charity with a varied workload focused on community education, communication, and volunteer and member management.
They will contribute across ERA’s projects and programs, creating and managing social media, press releases, signage, video, infographics, webinar, website, workshops and other means of communication professionally and efficiently.
A basic understanding of environmental science and processes is essential. In addition to stated duties, the applicant will contribute to ERA projects and programs as needed, including fieldwork, grant writing, project development, data analysis, and community consultation.

The position is part-to-fulltime (20+ hrs/week), with potential for full-time work as funding permits. The successful applicant will be comfortable expanding the scope of work to include other aspects of ERA activities.
As a small organization, workload and focus may shift over time, as required by projects and programs.

Duties Event coordination and development (including workshops, webinars, stewardship events)
Manage ERA social media (Facebook, Instagram) and media (press releases)
Curate and manage the ERA website
Produce and contribute to the ERA newsletter
Develop and manage stewardship, community education and communication projects and project components, including video, infographics, pamphlets
Assist with restoration, stewardship and research activities
Assist project and program development and execution
Assist with multifaceted project delivery, including fieldwork activities
