Minimum of one year/season working full-time on a Canadian style commercial apiary. Clean valid driver’s license, & not be allergic to bee stings. This is a physically demanding job. You must be in good physical condition, able to bend, crouch, kneel and withstand heavy lifting, often in hot summer conditions with a full bee suit. Candidates with experience in queen-breeding, hive health identification, honey production and team management preferred. Not an entry-level position.
Duties include caring for honey bees in the appropriate manner, coordinating production of replacement bees & equipment; recognizing, reporting, monitoring hive health issues and applying appropriate treatment/controls; harvesting honey, pollen and beeswax. You may supervise small teams of workers. You must be able to operate apiary equipment (including forklifts, trucks and pumps) and conduct bee yard maintenance. You will also be required to operate extractors and other honey house equipment and perform extraction/production duties. Evening and weekend work as necessary.
