What is Play
Therapy?

Play Therapy uses play to help children communicate, express themselves and work through challenging emotions.

This workshop is provided those who can utilize Play Therapy tools in
their everyday work with children.

What you will get

Learning Outcomes for Play Therapy Module 1:

  • Upon completion of this course students should be able to describe differences between the world of children and that of adults
  • Define play therapy and describe how play impacts development
  • Describe cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and identity development of children
  • Describe philosophical and theoretical foundations of child centered play therapy (CCPT)
  • Integrate play therapy techniques into teaching experiences
  • Demonstrate effective limit setting
  • Identify ways to increase sensitivity to diverse populations in CCPT
  • Describe key legal and ethical issues relevant to working with children in play therapy
  • Describe common themes in play therapy and demonstrate key CCPT facilitative roles (child leads, tracking, reflective content, reflecting feelings, build esteem, match child, avoid questions, limit setting)

Parent outcomes:

  • Learn effective limit setting methods
  • Improve communication between parents and children
  • Reduce behavioral struggles and family conflict
